My Calligraphy design

This is my calligraphic work for Tales We Tell. Tales We Tell is a storytelling organization in Hong Kong. It has been running a community storytelling activity as Yau Ma Tei @ Hong Kong for two years. Each time they gather, they share stories. Many new friends told their stories amongst communities they belong to. And Tales We Tell wishes that such story sharing activities will build a new Common for the city.

About my calligraphic work this time, the title is “On winter night, We gather”(冬夜圍爐). I created a round-circle-liked drawing for the word ‘gather’(圍）, it implies that we sit together and share our stories. That is exactly the setting we have been making for the activities.

The word “爐” in Chinese means pot. In winter, people were used to gathering around a fire pot or hot pot to get warm and share. One of our friends Michael Leung suggested making a real hot pot for the event. I said the pot should be a soup or dessert.
