Why do you write?

It seems that a lot of people on this platform are writing to make money. A lot of us are writing on this platform for the experience and feedback. At the end of the day I think everyone is writing to feel that sense of acceptance. I know that’s the case for me at least.

I do not have a desire to make money from writing. My desire is to simply learn to get the words out. I have always had a better hand at writing my feelings and thoughts than speaking them. I have so much to say and I can’t think of a better way to get it out other than writing. I could never find the words out loud or have the courage to say them, Honestly I still struggle with this today and that’s ok. I’m hoping to write a book one of these days when I’m ready to tell my story in it’s wholeness.

Books are what saved me when I was a kid. Books and movies. I watched a lot of lifetime movies growing up back when they were less corny and more real life like. Just knowing that there was more to the world than the shitty experiences I had endured. Seeing and reading other peoples stories helped me imagine my own story.

Reading about the different worlds and lives that other people have lived, fictional and non-fictional, all gave me hope.

I never wanted to be a writer then. I never wanted to share my story or even thought my story was worth sharing until more recent years. I don’t have any history writing, no college experience, and there are still tons of books on my reading list. I don’t know if writing is something I will continue to pursue after I share my story and get it out there. I read somewhere that great writers read good and good writers read great. So I will continue to read, because it will help me write and also I enjoy reading. Which is slightly ironic since I was held back in 5th grade for my reading comprehension not being up to par.

I just love the thought of there being over 7 billion people on this earth all with a different story to share, all different experiences and yet we can read or hear something and find that similar characteristic in their words. Whether it be the feeling we get when we read it or the actual situation was similar for us.

It’s actually in our genetic make up to feel this.
