or Why We Just Can’t Get Right

Look, I get it. We ALL are tired. As far as I’m concerned, this outbreak should have been put to bed months ago but numerous factors contributed to what we’re going through now, most of which I won’t get into here. What I will say is this: that thing that has made America so unique for so long is the very thing that has come back to haunt us this year.

We as Americans love tales of pulling oneself up by the bootstrap. The “I gotta get mine, you better get yours” mentality that permeates throughout our culture brings with it the undercurrent of a singular, unspoken question: “if I can do it, why can’t you?” Broadly speaking, we think in terms of me, as opposed to we. It is this ruggedly individualistic mindset that has us leading the world in Covid 19 infections by an improbable margin.
