It Is Your Job To Figure Out HOW to Make It Easy

The Challenge for Success

If you think I'm writing this article to spread my "wisdom" to other people. You're mistaken. I'm writing this article to myself—a gentle reminder of what I have to do to grow and survive. Our world is constantly changing. And to survive, we must learn to adapt to the changes. Once we adapt, we survive. The quicker we adapt, the better our chances of survival and, ultimately, growth.

Growth equals survival. It concisely describes human civilization on a grand scale. It also defines personal success. Success is survival optimized. Diligent students do whatever it takes to get straight A's in class. They study hard and long, sometimes into the late hours of the night. They allocate their time and energy to align with their goal. If the activity or time spent is not conducive to their goal, it's not done, plain and simple.

The budding Olympic stars start at an early age. They get out of bed daily at four in the morning and practice their passion for hours on end. Gymnastics, swimming, skiing, wrestling, it doesn't matter what the sport is. These young athletes are all the same, boundless and relentless in achieving their goals for perfection.

We all wish we could do it. We know what it takes. Are we lazy? Are we afraid of the challenge? Or are we fearful of failure? Is the mountain too great? What prevents us from being that Olympic athlete or that straight-A student?

An old ROTC Sargent once drilled his high school students with an ultimatum for life's roadblocks. It's the mission statement for the successful.

If only I had 'Sarge' barking those words in my head when I was sixteen years old, then I would probably be bolder in my ambitions and work harder to attain them. But, if I come to any difficulty, any obstacle, then I will echo Sarge's words of wisdom in my head and "figure out HOW to make it easy."
