THE TOWN THAT WE LEFT BEHIND!

Most of us have watched Swades and resonated with Shahrukh’s journey from NASA-to-Charanpur-to-NASA and back to Charanpur. During his stay at his homeland Charanpur, he comes across everyday problems…

Making the most of the coast

20th December 2020

We managed to sneak in one last beach run, and seized the one rare sunny morning and decided to run up to Godrevy Point and a little further towards Navax Point. On route, we were treated to a vast array of wildlife, including diving gannets grabbing their breakfast fresh from the sea, wild ponies on the track, puffin lookalikes, and of course the seals just waking in their cove.

Damn Godrevy, you fine

As one last treat, we booked in to visit the long-awaited Trevaskis Farm restaurant; it’s literally down the road from where we were staying and I’d already looked at the menu several times in anticipation of us going!

On walking to our table, we went passed the largest array of desserts I’ve ever seen, so I was already set on pudding before I’d sat down.

We had a cute little corner table, and had soy short ribs, followed by pork belly and lamb, then a ridiculous amount of Rolo torte, banoffee tart and lemon and blueberry cheesecake. Everything was wonderful, and the portions were very generous. We couldn’t fault it, and would definitely visit again!

Happy eggs, and the massive portions of appley pork belly and lamb with pancetta and peas

After 5 weeks in the Mowhay, we’d successfully packed up, used up all our food, and were ready to go the following morning.

Because we’d been so good at eating all our food so we had nothing going to waste, it meant we needed to go out and get something the night before we moved out. We decided to treat ourselves to a festive McDonald’s. Due to Covid, and seeing our family the next day, we went through the drive thru, and picked up a small feast. We sat in the toasty car and listened to festive tunes and just had a great time.

20 minutes later, we go to start the car to get on our way home.

Rttttt.
Rttttttttt.
Rttt.

Oh no. Dead battery. At 8pm, in the arse end of nowhere.

We tried to bump start it in the pouring rain, to no avail. Fortunately, Alex is an RAC member so we had someone to rescue us. Unfortunately, the wait time was 2–3 hours. We decided to wait it out in McDonald’s, at least until it closed.

As a shot in the dark, we mentioned our predicament to the branch manager, and he quite literally saved the day, and helped us jump start the car, and we managed to get away just before 9pm. Thanks Tony, you legend. Disaster averted! Luckily, the car started no problem the following morning too. A lesson learnt there: try to avoid using all the electrics at once if the engine is off!

And that was that! Thank you Cornwall, it’s been wonderful, and we hope to see you again soon. After Christmas, we’re off to Bristol!

Day 770

I love what I do. Having the privilege of helping dogs understand their place in the world and, just as importantly, helping their humans be the best stewards for their dogs they can be is something…

The Mouth of Heaven

We are not quite off the map, but definitely out of the book, and well off the beaten path here in Boca del Cielo, Chiapas. The sun is setting gold and melodramatic over the Pacific, almost a year…
