Twitter Breakdown

This is the last last twitter breakdown for the class. A lot of things have happened in the past few weeks, not everything I’m sharing may be the most important but these are the stories that caught my attention.

1. NowThisNews released a video telling us why it is racist to call cannabis “marijuana”. I was not very impressed. Some ok memes came out of it though.

2. The title of the tweet pretty much says it all. It was a tragic accident.

3. ‘ During last February’s live-stream on Facebook, Binh commented that the fishermen were stopped and beaten by authorities.’

4. Puerto Rico didn’t get the food they were promised. ‘ By the time 18.5 million meals were due, Tribute had delivered only 50,000. And FEMA inspectors discovered a problem: The food had been packaged separately from the pouches used to heat them. FEMA’s solicitation required “self-heating meals.”’

5. The New York Times back at it again with a video about how the most popular song at the time was made. This time around ‘Shape of You’ by Ed Sheeran.

6. ‘ In a statement in March 2017 after the first Trump budget proposed the elimination of CPB, the 50-year-old nonprofit characterized itself as “one of America’s best investments.”’

7. ‘ The extent of the investigation is not clear, nor is how long it will take. However, it does bring up the question of whether Pai had coordinated with Sinclair, and it could force him to publicly address the topic, which he hasn’t really done up to this point.’

8. ‘ The nation was shocked, then doubly shocked. But the emerging American tradition of school shootings has continued.’

9. For a couple of weeks all you’d see was tragedy on TV and on the internet so I thought I’d post something not so negative, something a bit funny.

15. Black Panther was a hit, the movie got a lot of praise but there’s always people who will find something negative.

18. ‘ He claims that 270,000 people took the quiz, but the data of some 50 million users, mainly in the US, was harvested without their explicit consent via their friend networks.’

19. ‘The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave. The officers have been with the department for two and four years, respectively; both had four years’ prior law enforcement experience with other agencies before joining the Sacramento force.’

20. Colorado’s election systems have been under attack by cyber intruders. Networks are being poked and prodded in an attempt to bypass security measures, access control systems and manipulate or extract data.

22. Russian government making it harder for it’s citizens to communicate privately and freely.

23. A tech journalist tried to make a point about how apple makes it hard for it’s costumers to upgrade, repair, and maintain their products, breaks a screen. He tries to fix it but apple won’t repair it even if he pays, and they won’t send him the parts because he’s not certified by apple. #pcmr

24. ‘ Smallville actress Allison Mack, who was arrested last Friday in Brooklyn for her alleged involvement in what authorities described as an abusive sex cult, is a victim of the group as well as one of its chief perpetrators, a self-styled whistleblower told Newsweek.’

Being asked to read and tweet the stories this whole semester has made me more aware of what’s going on around in our country and around the world. I’m not writer so I don’t think I’ll keep doing these for my self but I’ll definitely be more mindful of more international news and news not only related to tech and graphic design.
