How Important is the right manager?

Managers can be the leading force in the workspaces and often give their workers much-needed motivation. They provide a key role in the experience of your employees and a good manager provides direct and indirect benefits.

Hiring managers that communicate a vision of long-term improvement or goals is a jumpstart in the process of facilitating a positive culture in your workspace. A manager, by basic definition, is simply a person who controls a group of individuals, but setting your standards at the definition could have serious consequences. Leaders who excel at building a sense of purpose and pride in others’ make exceptional managers frequently facilitating positive teams. Regardless of the industry, work can become tedious and career changes are not out of the question, but a manager with a positive attitude is likely to have a higher retention rate on employees.

Each employee services a specific role to the company, and everyday they work towards fulfilling their tasks. The manager’s role is to connect the dots on all the various small projects being worked on, or assigning work to achieve a larger goal. Undoubtedly issues will arise both internally within the company and from external sources. A manager is a filter for the negative situations to be worked through and maintain the image and goal of the company. Most companies have objectives that they work towards on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, but the executives work on a much higher level.

An experienced manager will understand the needs and mindsets of executives, and work to ensure that their department works towards the company’s best interest. It can be easy for employees to get stuck during the day in and day out, but managers have the power to alleviate the repetition and create momentum within their team. Manager positions are almost always a balancing act between the executive’s goals and the motivation of employees. One way to ease the tension and miscommunication is to set up a communication pipeline, or a set of procedures on how you convert company phrasing to practical instruction. Corporate memos, cheesy weekly newsletters, and constant email notifications are an easy way to lose lines of communication to your employees. The less receptive that employees are, the less effective managers will be at providing them motivation for seemingly minute tasks.

The final key element as to why managers are so important, is that they provide the simple function of overseeing the most valuable resource at many companies. Current employees are invaluable resources as they provide recruitment opportunity, free marketing, and reliable feedback on the state of your company. Managers can provide exceptional functionality to companies and corporations if chosen for the correct skills and direct needs. Some companies undervalue their managers and in 2020 you can get ahead by understanding their capabilities if well equipped. In a media organization, managers have to juggle multiple areas of content creation in order to produce a cohesive project. Managers often take up new skills over time and will adapt to improve the infrastructure and efficiency of your company.
