Who is running the show?

Have you ever wondered who is controlling your life — your choices, places to go, what to eat, what to wear and so on?

Have you ever asked the question…where do my thoughts come from?

Do you ever feel as though you are going through life running a loop, never really getting anywhere? All the dreams you had as a child, the excitement of life… just seems to fade away, and life seems to become predictable and mundane almost as if you were running a program… well we could probably call it that. But why exactly do we fall into this loop or as many of us could say, this trap. The answer lies in our brains.

In this busy world where we seem to not have time for anything anymore, we are faced with al sorts of stressors — chemical stress, emotional stress and physical stress. All these stressors take a toll on our bodies and can leave detrimental health issues. Taking a look at the brain can help us understand why we find ourselves in a loop in life and ways that we can help ourselves out of these loops.

You are probably familiar with the flight or fight response. Well when we are living in survival there is no time for creativity, there is no time to think about possibilities, it is time to run fight or hide and our brain narrows its focus on matter. Therefore in that moment you will run a program and you will pick the most familiar outcome known to you, or should I say to the body, as its job is to keep you safe. Now you are probably wondering well how do I get out of this then and start to make my own choices. Well the first step in taking your power back is to relax the mind and body, this may include methods such as deep breathing, mindfulness and mediation, as it lowers the survival centres in the brain, creating more balance and wholeness. Therefore you are more likely to be creative and see new possibilities, and your program will stop running the show.

I encourage you to take some time out before your busy day, try sitting in stillness for 15 minutes and set your intention for the day, then observe what changes you see in your life as a result of you efforts.
